Sunshine Coast Regional Profile

P&Cs of the Sunshine Coast ……Welcome to our wonderful Regional Council

The Sunshine Coast Region of QCPCA incorporates the Education Region of the Sunshine Coast – Sunshine Coast North & Sunshine Coast South Districts. This area extends from Pine Rivers and Deception Bay in the south to Noosa in the north and west to Conondale and Kilcoy. The Region also incorporates two Branches- Northern (Nambour and Mooloolaba District Schools) and Southern (Murrumba Downs District Schools). We are probably best know for the Glasshouse Mountains, Noosa, Bribie Island, the beautiful Maleny Hinterland, The Big Pineapple, Woodford Folk Festival, surf and sand and a certain crocodile wrestler who shall remain nameless but nonetheless well known.

Our region contains 118 schools, with a mixture of very large high schools on the coastal areas and in the southern section through to small rural primary schools. The Sunshine Coast is one of the most rapidly expanding education areas in the state due to population drift and the growth in real estate development. It is a mix of tourism, farming and light industry, with the highest growth employment areas for our region being Tourism, Education and Health. Our local, and relatively new, University of the Sunshine Coast is seeking to address these priorities in the development of their courses and the way they link with local High Schools. Schools in our region also have a high level of Joint Community Use Facilities and Agreements with local Council Authorities.

The Sunshine Coast Region first existed as a branch (1989-1992) until the Regional Council was formed on 18th October 1992 in our first conference at Marcoola. Since our establishment the Sunshine Coast Regional Council has been active in QCPCA at every level. Our region has always believed that active participation in the state body is the only way to maintain a strong and vital state organization which will continue to be of relevance and benefit to our affiliates, our P&Cs.

The volunteer work of our regional council includes supporting State School Education, increasing the level of co-operation between parents, teachers and Administration and to skill P&Cs so they can continue to contribute positively to their school communities. Our workshops and conferences deal with issues and procedures most relevant to P&C operations from Employment, Tuck shop operations, After School Care through to School Councils, P&Cs and the school budget and effective communication. We enjoy the cooperative support of our local Education Districts.

QCPCA Sunshine Coast supports P&C Associations through skilling days, conference, telephone support and help, regional newsletters and networking for success. The region supports the work of our two Branches in making local and personal contact with P&Cs to assist them to work effectively within their school communities to make a difference.

Our region is strongly committed to a quality State School System which values the vital contribution made by parents. We believe a quality state system will work with parents to enhance the learning opportunities and environment of students under their care.

Please contact our region should you have any questions regarding P&C Operations. We look forward to meeting and working with you in the future at our conferences and workshops.
