Regional Presidents' Report
Can you believe that it is Term 4 already? Before we can get into the party season though P&C’s still have some work to do before the year is out!
The financial year for the P&C is the calendar year so it is essential that all your books are in order at the end of this year. They will then need to be audited prior to your AGM at the start of next year.
Have a chat to your executive to see whether people will be standing down from their positions at the next AGM. Many P&C’s have trouble finding volunteers for positions so start the search now rather than leave it to the last minute. Maybe someone who is interested could start learning the job now? On the job training is the best training available!
Make sure all your documents are also ready to hand over to the new executive next year. Maybe also some planning might come in handy for fundraising and your red days next year? All in all good planning will deliver a smooth year for your P&C.
An issue affecting High Schools recently was the decree from Education Queensland that all students must attend school from day one. Most high schools have a staggered start at the beginning of the year whereby year eight students and some other year levels, depending on the needs of the school community, commence on day one with the rest of the students commencing on day two.
Many P&C’s were very unhappy about this changing and wrote to QCPCA. QCPCA contacted the Minister with their concerns and I am happy to report that the Minister has now agreed to allow high schools to have a two day staggered start for term one. This is just one of many ways that QCPCA has played an important role advocating for P&C’s.
Keep an eye out too for our Skilling Day next year. This day is essential for P&C’s to learn more about their roles and how to be an effective P&C. This may be a good way to encourage new P&C executive members!!
I wish you and everyone special to you a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Ben Thompson,
