Darling Downs Profile
The Darling Downs region covers an area that extends South to the NSW border, Talwood, Goondiwindi, Wallangarra and, North to Kaimkillenbun and Bell, West to Jimbour and, East to Crows Nest, Mount Sylvia and Killarney.
Within this area there are Education Queensland districts of Toowoomba, Warwick and part of the Downs District.
The region has a large number of small schools as well as P-10 schools and 11 High School campuses.
The Regional Council meetings and Parent Conferences are held twice a year and are rotated around the districts with a School/P&C hosting each time. The Executive Management committee meets every 2 months, usually in Toowoomba, one week before each of the State Executive meetings. This allows issues to be discussed and given so that the regional representative can put forward to the State meeting the views from within the region. All P&C’s are invited to send a representative to all the meetings or voice their opinion to an Executive member.
Telephone calls are made to each P&C Association. This contact enables the P&C Presidents the opportunity to ask questions, propose ideas or just talk to a QCPCA representative about how their P&C is traveling.
There is one QCPCA branch in the Darling Downs Region and that is the Downs Country Branch which is based on the Schools that were in the Education Queensland Darling Downs District in 2004. The boundaries for this branch have not changed even though the Downs South West District now covers an area including South West schools. The branch meets once a term usually with a guest speaker at the meetings. The schools within the branch area host the meetings.
The Darling Downs Regional Council Executive Management Committee meets regularly with the Regional Executive Director and the 3 Executive Directors – Schools. There are two Community Participation Officers in the region and they work closely with P&C’s. Communication is actively encouraged between Education Queensland representatives and QCPCA members.
