South Coast Regional Profile

South Coast Region covers the area governed by Gold Coast City Council and Beaudesert Shire Council. This geographically covers the area from the New South Wales border up until the Logan River (South of Brisbane) across the hinterland and out to the rural areas surrounding Beaudesert.

Due to the varied geographical area we have a school which has as little as 30 students up to P-12 schools with some large schools totalling over 2500 students.

The South Coast Regional Council is firmly committed to upholding QCPCA goals and the mission statement. The South Coast Regional Council enjoys the benefits of two branches. These branches are located in the Gold Coast (GC) and Logan, Albert and Beaudesert (LAB) districts. The advantage of our region having two branches is shown by the ability of each branch to focus their QCPCA commitments to schools within their district. We as a regional council are then able to be more consistent in our facilitation to aid P&C's when required and are not restricted by the distance of schools requiring aid.

Our Council is made up of a President; Two Vice-Presidents that must represent the Two branches; Secretary, Treasurer and State Executive. This year we have a State Executive and an alternate State Executive to provide support relief if need, for this very important and involved Executive position. The other main reason we have decided to have an Alternate State Executive is because we on the South Coast positively reaffirm group support dynamics, which ensure relief for our Executive volunteers.

South Coast Regional Executive profiles for 2011-12:

President: Evelyn Stray

Evelyn is a proactive member of QCPCA. Evelyn has held the position of Secretary at a Branch level for 3 years and Regional Secretary for Two years. Evelyn is a dedicated member of the QCPCA and is focused on bringing positive communication delivery in her position as South Coast Regional President. Vice President: Marion Lewis (Logan/Albert/Beaudesert (LAB) Branch)

Marion Lewis has been a member of QCPCA for five years. Marion has attended conference and many various workshops to gather information related to P&C associations. This is Marion's' second year in an executive position for the South Coast Region and the Region is very glad to have Marion. Marion is committed to her position and will be a positive and proactive of QCPCA while in this position.

Vice President: Paula Dover (Gold Coast (GC) Branch)

Paula Dover is a long standing proactive member of the South Coast Region of QCPCA. Paula has held various executive positions in her time as a member of our Region and has been a participant in many past successes for our Region in relation to workshops, skilling days, meet and greets, P&C relations and more. Paula has an extensive understanding of the responsibilities of being an executive member of QCPCA and has always conducted herself with a high regard to what is expected of her as an endorsed representative of the QCPCA.

Secretary: Maree Mann

Maree Mann has been involved with P&C's since 2005 and QCPCA since 2005 as well; Maree was Logan/Albert/Beaudesert Secretary from 2005 till 2008 then again in 2010. Her first Conference was in Mackay and she has thoroughly enjoyed it. Maree currently holds the position of the South Coast Regional Secretary and is looking forward to helping QCPCA move into a new era and to see what comes along in the future of schools in Queensland.

Treasurer: Anne-Maree Johnson

Anne-Maree has held various positions at the Regional and Branch levels. These consist of: LAB Branch secretary for 1 year; Regional Secretary for 3 years; Regional State Executive for 3 years. Anne-Maree has always displayed a very high standard of commitment to her duties as a South Coast Regional QCPCA representative. Anne-Maree has been an asset to the South Coast Regional Council of QCPCA and Anne-Maree's on-going dedication will only continue to positively affect our region.

Donna has an extensive understanding of the requirements of Executive duties at the Regional level. Donna was easily able to steer the South Coast Regional Council through its duties to P&Cs. Donna's ability to engage P&Cs at a personal level is outstanding and teamed with her commitment to her roles, has seen Donna accomplish many positive outcomes for P&Cs.

Alternate State Executive: Evelyn as stated above is a proactive member of QCPCA. Evelyn in this position will, attend State meetings and other State duties as alternate State executive. Evelyn will attend these important meetings as required.  Evelyn is a dedicated member of the QCPCA and is focused on representing the South Coast Region in her duties for P&Cs within QCPCA.

Out Going 2010/2011 Regional President Phillip Meadows' Annual Report

AUGUST 2011

South Coast Region encompasses geographically an area governed by Gold Coast City Council Logan City Council and Beaudesert Shire Council.  Roughly the area from the New South Wales border along the Gold Coast across the hinterland, out to the rural areas surrounding Beaudesert and back across into Logan City.  Due to the varied geographical area we have a school which has as little as 30 students up to P-12 schools some large schools totalling over 2500 students. We are bounded by Met West and Met East.

The South Coast Regional Council enjoys the benefits of two branches. These branches are located in the Gold Coast (GC) and Logan Albert and Beaudesert (LAB) districts.    The advantage of our region having two branches is shown by the ability of each branch to focus their QCPCA commitments to schools within their district. We as a regional council are then able to be more consistent in our facilitation to aid P&C's when required and are not restricted by the distance of schools requiring aid.  We are firmly committed to establishing and encouraging the activities of P&C Associations in the interest of the school students and to be involved in all areas of education affecting the parent, the school and the community.  We have continued to provide professional support and information for our affiliates when P & Cs require support and we thank Peter Madonna and Team at Newmarket for the support they provide to us

Parents, carers and families are the first and most important influence in a child's life, instilling the attitudes and values that will support young people to participate in schooling and contribute to broader local and global communities.  As P & C members we are charged with fostering community interest in educational matters and the responsibility of promoting the interests and facilitating the improvement and further and development of our school.   We do this in the hope of making a difference for not only our children but also for all the students at school.  We assist in the provision of financial and other resources for the benefit of students of the school.  Partnerships between students, parents, carers and families, the broader community, business, schools and other education and training providers bring mutual benefits and maximise student engagement and achievement.  Parents know that through the actions of parents, students and teachers working together, fantastic educational outcomes will happen.

I thank sincerely our Regional Executive.  We are a group of volunteers who are keen supporters of Public Education.  Our lynchpin is Evelyn who has the demanding job of Regional Secretary.  Evelyn has brought a high degree of professionalism and structure to the role and continues to do a great example by the timely dissemination of information terrific organisational skills and having just edited our First Newsletter.  Thank you Evelyn.  Thanks also to Donna State Exec Rep Cole VP (GC) Marion VP (LAB) Anne Maree Treasurer who have all done great work and I thank them for the commitment shown to their roles.  I thank all the Branch Execs and affiliates who support each other and their P&C's, Tracy Stacy Dianne Col Paula Lynn Grace Ken Maree Kaye Marion Maree Rima and delegates from the local Parents and Citizens Associations who regularly attend our Branch's monthly meetings helping us to effectively communicate/engage/advocate with P&Cs, QCPCA & EQ and other stakeholders and by representing QCPCA Inc.

Late last year in Term Four we were delighted to host an ACARA Evening at Beenleigh SHS on Monday 25th October, Lesley Englet Keynote Speaker attended by parent's educators and students and we were inspired by her address.  In Term One LAB Branch held a Meet and Greet at Fitzy's Waterford and we were delighted that Margaret Leary State President was able to attend.  Ongoing Partnerships with our Regional Executive Director Glen Hoppner who along with Sam Knowles from LAB District office are continuing supporters at our events and functions and we are fortunate to have our valuable CPO's Mrs. Lynn Lloyd and Mr. Kym Kirk and we thank them for conducting Skilling Workshops in June for the role of Treasurer Secretary & President at Marsden SS.

From the Current Regional President Evelyn Stray 2011/2012
