The Northern Region Profile

The Northern Region extends from Gumlu State School to the south of Home Hill, west to Greenvale and Pentland State Schools and north to Abergowrie State School. To simplify that, we extend from north of Ingham, to south of Home Hill and west of Charters Towers.

The Northern Region demographic, encompassing 75 facilities, includes Kirwan High School with one of the largest student populations in the state (1958 students) to Mt Fox State School which is currently the smallest school with an enrolment of nine students. There are 22 x Band 5 schools, 9 x Band 6, 9 x Band 7, 13 x Band 8, 14 x Band 9, 6 x Band 10 and 2 x Band 11 schools in the region. Four schools have a student population in excess of 1000 students, 17 have between 500 and 1000 students, 23 between 100 and 500 students and 31 have 100 students or less.

The NRC Executive

We have an enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer team led by Regional President Mick Cutler (who is also the regional State Executive Representative), Vice-presidents Kim Donaldson and Debbie Scuderi, Secretary Maree Parsons and Treasurer Linda Nardini. They, along with our other school delegates, are great advocates for public education and QCPCA.

Mick Cutler has been involved in P&C and QCPCA activities since his eldest son began school in 2003. Since that time, he has served as Secretary, President and QCPCA representative at his sons' schools, as well as relief OSHC Co-ordinator for a lengthy period. With his long association with the P&C and as a self-employed business owner, he is aware of the financial accountabilities that P&Cs must comply with. His children, in 2010, are in Years 2, 5 and 8 and his wife works at the school as a Teacher's aide.

Maree Parsons has been attending P & C meetings for a number of years to keep informed about things happening around the school.  She is the Secretary of her children's school after serving as the Treasurer last year.  Maree is married with two children.  Her daughter is in Year 5 and her son is in Year 2.  Maree works part-time in a State Government office and also has a small home based business selling scrapbooking supplies and organising scrapbooking workshops.  She fills  her days with the usual running children to sport and playing Touch Football herself as well as assisting whenever possible with fundraising for the school P & C.

Linda Nardini is married to a Defence Forces nursing officer and has two children with the elder in Year 3 and the younger yet to commence schooling. As an early childhood teacher she has a particular interest in Prep and the Early Years curriculum and is a wealth of knowledge and guidance to the region in these expertise areas. Linda is an active member of her child's school's P&C as their President and QCPCA representative and is an activist for positive educational outcomes.

Kim Donaldson lives with her husband and children on Camel Creek Station, a cattle property 100 km south-west of Ingham and 200 km north-west of Charters Towers. She home tutors two of her children through the Charters Towers School of Distance Education, with the elder daughter now at boarding school. Their children are currently in Years 2, 6 and 8.

Debbie Scuderi hails from the Ingham district and has been going to meetings since her eldest son attended Kindy, sometimes as many as 3 meetings a month, varying from a combination of Daycare, Kindy, Preschool, Primary School and Secondary School.  She has been President of the Ladies Auxiliary and Vice President of the P & C for many years.  Debbie and her husband of 29 years have 3 children with the eldest in Year 9, another son in Year 7 and her daughter in Year 5.   From this committed involvement, she therefore knows the challenges of being a Mum, Parent, Friend and a P & C Executive member all at the same time, which can sometimes be very interesting, and understands that sometimes you just need to ask for help.

In addition to the regional office bearers, it would be remiss not to mention the enduring support of Lyn Phillips, a QCPCA regional and State Life Member who has chalked up many years of experience and who has accepted numerous regional, state and national positions during that time. She has proven to be a wonderful mentor, a ready source of assistance with a wealth of knowledge and experience and keeps the regional office bearers 'on their toes'.
