Advice for P&Cs as employers

For P&Cs carrying out often complex business operations such as tuckshops, uniform shops or outside school hours care, it is important to receive the correct advice.

The National Retail Association (NRA) is offering membership to P&Cs to provide the necessary support. The Queensland Council of Parents and Citizens' Associations (QCPCA) has worked with NRA to deliver a package specifically in support of P&Cs.

The NRA is a not-for-profit employer association that has represented the interests of the service sector for almost 100 years. NRA staff include trained lawyers who can offer the professional level of support required. NRA member benefits include unlimited toll free telephone advice and information on employment law matters, employment law representation at discounted member rates and document templates. The cost for membership is $350 (inc. GST) per year.

Insurance advice on-site 2012

MARSH Pty Ltd is the appointed Insurance Broker for the QCPCA. Marsh provides the following services and management of the Insurance Package to QCPCA affiliated P&C Associations:

o General Insurance Advice

o Claims Lodgement / Management

o Property Insurance

o Public and Products Liability Insurance

o Group Personal Accident for Voluntary Workers

The QCPCA Website www.qcpca.org.au contains the suite of Package Policy Wordings along with the undermentioned forms, which are available for your easy access. Documents in addition to the Policy Wordings which are located on our Website under 'Insurance Policies and forms' are as follows:

o Claims Notification Advice - to be completed if the P&C need to lodge a claim.

o Public Liability Certificate of Currency Request Form - to be completed if the P&C require a Certificate of Currency for specific activities.

o Activity Declaration Form - to be completed by the P&C for activities and to obtain confirmation of cover under the Policy.

MARSH can be contacted during business hours on (07) 3115 4555.

A representative from Marsh Pty Ltd will be at the QCPCA Office once a month and will be available to address all your insurance needs.

From Mines to Minds: A Queensland Education Trust

Premier Anna Bligh has launched a plan to use the State's resources to fuel the education of the next generation of Queenslanders: From Mines to Minds: A proposal to establish a Queensland Education Trust

The paper proposes the establishment of a multi-billion dollar Queensland Education Trust using 50% of future LNG royalties - projected at more than $1.8 billion in the next 10 years alone.

The Government's proposed trust could be invested in different ways including;

Individual Trust Accounts for Education - an individual endowment that would mean every newborn child would have a nest egg valued between $7800 and $9500 when they turn 18 or;

Dedicated Education Fund: an investment fund where the proceeds are reinvested by Government in education and training initiatives beyond the basics throughout the schooling years and potentially beyond.

Tuckshop Day proves a success

Queensland school communities celebrate Tuckshop Day...

Tuckshop Day in Queensland was marked with celebrations across the state. QCPCA President Margaret Leary said 'The hard work of our tuckshops often goes unnoticed ...There are so many of our Tuckshops serving up healthy, nutritious food everyday and it's wonderful that there is finally some recognition. All Tuckshops could do with more volunteers too, so if you have some free time, head on down to your local Tuckshop and share your skills. It doesn't have to be a whole day, even one hour can be useful. '
