Stanthorpe on the Darling Downs was the destination for our QCPCA Executive roaming meeting and parent/community forum on 3-5 June 2011.
The team took the opportunity to visit three local schools: Maryvale State School, Warwick State High School and The Summit State School. At Maryvale State School the State Executive were given a tour of the school by students including the new BER funded building opening soon and an overview of their new music program.
The next visit was to Warwick State High School. After being greeted by the principal, Cheryl Dossetto and a question and answer session with P&C members, the State Executive were given a tour of the campus including the school's agricultural centre.
Our final visit was to The Summit State School which claims to be Queensland's highest school in terms of its altitude, also making it one of the chilliest! We were able to meet with the school's P&C and were given a tour of the school by principal Greg Grant and P&C president Lindsay Adams.
Saturday's State Executive meeting was held at the Queensland College of Wine Tourism (QCWT). The agenda covered a range of issues including the recent CLbG information sessions.
The parent/community forum, held again at the QCWT on the Sunday. Our executive and Regional Director Greg Dickman answered a wide range of questions from P&C representatives on issues such as the Australian curriculum, P&C Day 2011, recruiting to P&Cs and roles of the P&C. The event as always offered an important and invaluable opportunity to share information, so thank you to all those who attended.
Thanks also to Darling Downs Regional Council for hosting the weekend and to Maryvale State School, Warwick State High School, The Summit State School and QCWT. QCPCA is very grateful for the hospitality shown. The parent/community forum was a another great success and the Executive will continue to visit regions, giving P&C members the opportunity to attend a forum in their area.
