The QCPCA State Executive headed to the Sunshine Coast for a roaming meeting and parent/community forum on 1 - 3 April 2011.

The team visited three local schools: Caboolture East State School, Eudlo State School and Maroochydore State High School. At Caboolture East State School the State Executive met with the Principal, Mrs Julieanne Wilson, P&C President Wayne Hopper, school staff and P&C members.  We were then given a tour of the school and its facilities, including the new resource centre.

At Eudlo State School we were greeted enthusiastically at the gate by students, Principal Ian Webb, P&C President, Nikky McClelland-Neylon, school staff and P&C members. After a presentation and question and answer session, the State Executive were given a tour of the campus including the school's surrounding rain forest and the newly built BER sports hall.

Maroochydore State High School provided our Executive with a warm welcome. Principal Boyd Jorgensen provided us with an overview of the school and its numerous curriculum options, including surfing.  Two students, Katherine Ernst and Jonathon Cripps, then presented their view of the school, including why they chose Maroochydore State High School for their secondary schooling.

Saturday's State Executive meeting was held at the Rydges Oasis, Caloundra.  The agenda covered issues such as QCPCA state representation, curriculum and infrastructure.

The Saturday night reception enabled our Executive to discuss P&C business with local P&C members, dignitaries including Mark McArdle MP, Member for Caloundra and Education Queensland personnel.

There was a great turn out for our parent/community forum, held at Caloundra State High School on the Sunday and we thank Principal Peter Kelly and P&C President Tony Bridges for hosting us.  A wide range of questions from P&C representatives on issues such as the Australian curriculum, the federal funding review, Flying Start, P&C Day 2011, recruiting to P&Cs and roles of the P&C were answered by QCPCA Executive members and Regional representatives. The event offered an important and invaluable opportunity to share information, so thank you to all those who attended.

Thanks also to Sunshine Coast Regional Council for hosting the weekend and to Caboolture East State School, Eudlo State School and Maroochydore State High School. QCPCA is very grateful for the hospitality shown. The parent/community forum was a great success and the Executive will continue to visit regions, giving P&C members the opportunity to attend a forum in their area.

QCPCA's next parent/community forum will be held 3-5 June 2011 at the Queensland College of Wine Tourism in Stanthorpe, part of QCPCA's Darling Downs region (details to be featured on the QCPCA website, in Parent Talk and QCPCA-e soon).
