On Friday 20th November, the State Executive of QCPCA travelled to the Gold Coast for a roaming meeting and Community Parent Forum.
The team visited some of the local schools; Beenleigh State High School, Mudgeeraba State Special School and Robina State High School. At Beenleigh State High School the State Executive were treated to an excellent performance of a Monty Python sketch in the schools dedicated performing arts area known as "The Cage". This was followed by a tour of the school's agricultural facility.
Mudgeeraba State Special School gave our State Executive a tour of their classrooms and facilities. A delicious lunch was cooked up by staff and students and provided a great opportunity for QCPCA members to learn more about the school from staff, students and P&C members.
The State Executive then moved onto Robina State High School and were given an overview of their League for Life program, which received the Showcase Award for Excellence in Community Partnerships at this year's State Education Gala Dinner. The Executive also sat in on a Science class taught in Japanese, part of Robina's Japanese immersion program, and then made a visit to the specially built Washitsu.
On the Friday evening, Gold Coast Mayor Cr Ron Clarke MBE hosted a reception at the Gold Coast Arts Centre for school community members and invited guests. Again this provided a great opportunity for people from across Queensland to meet and discuss P&C business. Thank you to the Gold Coast City Council for their sponsorship for this event.
The Saturday State Executive meeting was held at the Robina State High School Library and saw a busy agenda. Issues discussed included funding, curriculum and infrastructure.
Our Parent Community Forum, held at Robina State High School on the Sunday saw a great turnout. There were a wide range of questions from P&C representatives which were answered by QCPCA Executive members as well as the Regional representatives. The event offers an important and invaluable opportunity to share information so thank you to all those who attended.
Thank you to South Coast Regional Council for hosting the weekend and to Beenleigh State High School, Mudgeeraba State Special School and Robina State High School. The Parent Community Forum was a real success and the Executive will continue to visit regions giving P&C members the opportunity to attend a forum in their area. QCPCA was very grateful for the hospitality shown.
Keep your eye out for more information on our next Parent Community Forum that is to be held in South West region on Sunday 28th- 30 May 2010.
