QCPCA Hot TopicsEducation Queensland is encouraging community members to have their say on the future of 11 schools throughout the state with declining and low enrolments.

Department of Education and Training Director-General Julie Grantham said each year a review of all schools, including those mothballed, was conducted to ensure they offered the best possible use of resources.

"Education Queensland aims to provide the best possible education for students throughout the state," Ms Grantham said.

"We do this by supplying modern, up-to-date schools and classrooms, and delivering the broadest range of learning opportunities no matter where students live."

Ms Grantham said the department needed to ensure it was getting the very best from its schools.

"There are always schools where enrolment numbers continue to decline and forward growth estimates show they are unlikely to increase," she said.

"We have a responsibility to investigate whether their students are able to access the full range of educational opportunities.

"This is an annual process in which we carefully consider all the information and community views before making any decisions about a school's future.

"We understand the important role a school may have in a community and that's why we are inviting local residents to have their say."

Ms Grantham said a series of information sessions with school communities will be held during Term 3, July to October.

Local communities will be consulted on the future of these schools:
