February 2007
For all our new and returning Parents, Students and Staff a very warm welcome to the School year, 2007. We at QCPCA do hope that you have had a healthy and safe holiday and are in readiness to take the year ahead in your stride. This edition will feature as usual some very handy tips for P&C’s and parents alike to adjust and settle in to the year ahead. You may also be directed to our Web site to our Hot Topics or other sections for more in depth versions of handy tips to help you through the year.
It is no surprise that we will be calling on your assistance again this year so we can advocate for the needs of all P&C’s. Firstly we will need your assistance to monitor the first full year of Prep. Please take the time to consider and answer our surveys. If we cannot develop an opinion on how Prep is achieving by having accountable data we cannot advocate for any improvements you identify.
Smart Choices is now a part of the school community’s everyday operations. Please feel free to contact us if you still require some assistance. Healthier tuckshop choices do not have to diminish profits but, as many have identified, it has the potential to improve the overall ‘health’ of your tuckshop operations. More importantly though it is a positive step forward in guiding the healthy choices of our students, by providing and promoting healthy alternatives.
During the last State election the Government made considerable commitments to School Chaplaincy Programs. During the holidays the development of the policy to support the funding process has been on going. We at QCPCA have also been consulting with the staff tasked with the policy development. We have endeavoured to pass on a rounded collection of experiences and positions from across the state. It is hoped that funding application processes will be available to P&C’s early in the school year.
Does your P&C have a QCPCA representative that can take your P&Cs experiences to Regional Council Meetings? If not please consider appointing a QCPCA representative to help share in the successes and problem solving. In many situations your successes may help others while some others in the groups may be able to offer their experiences to assist in solving your problems. If you are unaware of your Regional Council contact please look under ‘contacts’ on our web site or phone our office.
Speaking of communicating we have been undertaking a great deal of work at a state level with the Information Technology area of Education Queensland to ensure that every P&C has access to a reliable email service. A great deal of work has been done by a dedicated group of people but we need your assistance to make it work. If you don’t have direct access to P&C email please ask your Principal for the information you need to arrange it or contact our office. We have an agreement with Education Queensland that we will only send simple text emails to keep you informed and abreast of current issues. We will not send attachments, as we do not want to clog the email system up. Give it a go!
Here’s to a great year ahead full of quality education opportunities and outcomes for every student across the state.
