National Quality Framework Update

E-mail Print PDF

The Commonwealth and State and Territory Governments have recently made two important announcements in relation to the National Quality Framework (NQF) which P&Cs running an OSHC should be aware of.

My Time, Our Place: Framework for School Age Care (http://www.deewr.gov.au/Earlychildhood/Policy_Agenda/Pages/FrameSchAgeCare.aspx), the first national learning framework for school age care children 6-12 years in outside school hours care services, was officially released.

The Framework aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework (http://www.deewr.gov.au/EarlyChildhood/Policy_Agenda/Quality/Pages/EarlyYearsLearningFramework.aspx) which is focused on children birth-5 years, applies to services delivering education and care to school age children under the Education and Care Services National Law from 1 January 2012 and provides the blueprint to help educators meet the educational  program and practice requirements under the National Quality Standard (NQS).

The Australian Government will be delivering copies of the Framework to Outside School Hours Care services shortly and copies can be downloaded from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (http://www.deewr.gov.au/Earlychildhood/Policy_Agenda/Documents/AgeCareinAus.pdf)

Board members of the new national authority, the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) have been announced. ACECQA will monitor the implementation of the NQF from 1 January 2012, to ensure national improvements to and consistency of early childhood education and care across Australia.

The ACECQA Board will be led by Ms Rachel Hunter as Chair, who will be supported by a 13 member Board consisting of State and Territory  representatives with a range of expertise from across Australia.  ACECQA Chief Executive Officer, Karen Curtis will lead the operation of ACECQA and report to the Board.
